IPL Vs PSL Comparison: Which T20 League is Better?

Hey there its DWC here and welcome to another new cricket blog about IPL Vs PSL Comparison.  Whether it's Pakistan or India, cricket is not just a passion; it's madness, it's love. And everything is fair in love. This is why Pakistanis claim that the Pakistan Super League is the best in the world. At the same time, neighbors believe the Indian Premier League is the "World's Best." But is there a comparison to be made? We'll discuss it today.

But if you haven't already, please subscribe to our TG channel.

First, let's be clear that the IPL is currently the biggest league in the world, with everything - money, glamour, fame. But there are only a few players from Pakistan in the IPL. The league's first season was held in 2008, and since then, no Pakistani player has participated in the IPL. In other words, the world's largest league is being played without the world's best T20 players. WHAT A PITY!

This may be why Pakistan decided to start its league. In the beginning, it wasn't easy. Pakistan Cricket Board encountered many failures and difficulties. For many years, Pakistan's league could not be held in Pakistan because no international cricketer was willing to come here. But a lot has changed in these eight years. Indeed, PSL itself is a catalyst for this change. The PSL deserves full credit for bringing international cricket back to Pakistan. This is such a significant achievement of PSL that nothing in the world holds any status compared to it.

However, for your satisfaction, let's make a financial comparison between the IPL and PSL so that our naive friends can understand the stark difference. In reality, there should be no comparison between these leagues.

When the IPL started in 2008, the franchise rights for eight teams were sold for $722 million. Today, 15 years later, the valuation of the IPL is estimated to be around $11 billion. Yes, 11 BILLION DOLLARS! In comparison, when Pakistan sold the franchise rights of five teams in 2015, they received only $90 million in return. There is a big difference between $724 million and $90 million! Yes, it is a massive amount for Pakistan, but it is nothing compared to the IPL.

Each team in the IPL has a budget of over $10 million to buy players; in the PSL, it is only $1.2 million. The average salary of players in the IPL is $1.5 million, while in the PSL, it is only $200,000. Now talk about the BIG MONEY. Regarding sponsorships and broadcasting, there is no competition between the two. Currently, Tata holds the title sponsorship of the IPL, and they paid $62.4 million for two years.

HBL Bank paid $22.2 million for three years in the PSL. Regarding media rights, after ten seasons, the media rights of the IPL were sold to Star India for $2.5 billion. In comparison, the PSL's media rights were sold for $15 million two years ago.

In the IPL, the champion team receives $2.4 million, and the runner-up gets around $1.6 million. In comparison, Lahore Qalandars received only $425,000 for winning the title, and Multan, who lost the final, received only $170,000. Therefore, the team that wins the IPL gets about six times more money. Even when looking at the most expensive players, there is no competition. England's Sam Curran is the most expensive player in the IPL for season XVI, bought by Punjab Kings for 18.5 crore Indian rupees, about $2.2 million. This amount of money is used to form two teams in PSL. Therefore, financially, there is no comparison between these two leagues. The difference between the economies of Pakistan and India is stark in their respective leagues. It is like the difference between the earth and the sky. But is everything about money?

Has IPL produced stars like Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah for Pakistan? Did IPL play a role in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan? NO! So, unless Pakistani players participate in the Indian League, the "world's biggest league" is not worth our attention.

For better understand I am giving a list. Here are some points to consider:

01. Popularity and Global Reach:

    • The IPL is undoubtedly more popular globally and has a broader fan base. It attracts top international players, and its matches are widely watched worldwide.
    • The PSL has been successful in gaining popularity, especially in Pakistan and among fans of Pakistani cricket. It has played a crucial role in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan.

02. Financial Power:

    • The IPL is financially more robust, with significantly higher franchise valuations, player budgets, and sponsorship deals.
    • While growing, the PSL is not as financially lucrative as the IPL. The difference in economic scale between India and Pakistan is reflected in the financial aspects of their respective leagues.

03. Quality of Cricket:

    • The IPL attracts a large pool of international talent, making it highly competitive and considered one of the best T20 leagues in the world.
    • The PSL has seen the emergence of talented players and contributed to cricket's development in Pakistan. However, it may not have the same level of international star power as the IPL.

04. Contribution to Cricket Development:

    • The PSL is credited with bringing international cricket back to Pakistan, and it has provided a platform for young Pakistani talents to showcase their skills.
    • The IPL has not directly contributed to the development of cricket in Pakistan. Still, it has played a significant role in the overall growth of T20 cricket globally.

05. Financial Disparities:

    • The financial differences between the IPL and PSL are substantial. Still, something else is needed to determine the quality of cricket or the entertainment value for fans.
